Flow cytometry is a technique used to detect and measure the physical and chemical characteristics of a population of cells or particles. Quantifiable measurements of cellular attributes, such as cell size, granularity, DNA/RNA content, CD markers expression, surface and intracellular receptors, and gene expression, are made using the principle of fluorescence, or exciting light energy. Peripheral blood, bone marrow aspirate, and cerebrospinal fluid are all specimens that can be analyzed using flow cytometry
